What comes to mind when you hear the words “body building?” Do you think about women and men with comical sized muscles walking around and posing for photos? Do you think of the man who is able to, unassisted, lift hundreds of pounds? Believe it or not, there is so much more to body building than just morphing into a stereotypically muscle clad meat head. Body building is how many people strengthen their muscles and tone them as they work to get into better shape.

Learn how to breathe correctly. Breathing correctly is essential to a body building exercise routine. It is not a good idea to hold your breath. You want to take in enough oxygen to keep your muscles healthy and happy. When you breathe you want to breathe in from your diaphragm and not from your lungs. It is difficult to give your torso a proper work out if you don’t breathe correctly because filling your lungs with too much air expands your chest too much to be able to do any real work. If you breathe from the diaphragm you are still taking in all the oxygen you need but it doesn’t cause your chest to expand.

Set realistic goals for yourself. Don’t try to get super ripped super fast. Focus on goals that are realistic and healthy. Being able to see your goals actually happen can do wonders for your body building efforts and mindset.

Keep setting goals: set new ones as you achieve the ones you have in place. Step by step goal setting helps keep you focused and keeps you from trying anything stupid or trying to take shortcuts. You cannot build muscles that are not already strong. It is easy to get discouraged when you don’t see results very quickly but you need to go slowly so that you don’t hurt yourself.

Check in with your doctor regularly. Your doctor will help you make sure that you are getting a proper workout and keeping your muscles as healthy as you can. Your doctor will check your response to the workouts, make sure that they are having the proper effect and help to ensure that you aren’t straining yourself too much. Your doctor will help you identify potential issues as they come up and will make sure that they are treated in a good amount of time before those issues can get worse. The minimum you should do is see your doctor when you begin body building to make sure that you have the correct approach for your new fitness approach. Body building is a fully legitimate sport that is used to work out your muscles, increase your strength and improve your health. So many people think that body building is little more than a fun past time. It is actually a wonderful method of building, toning and strengthening your muscles while improving on your overall levels of health.
